The development of modern, sustainable and competitive port infrastructure constitutes a critical pillar for regional development, the improvement of the country’s connectivity with international trade and the strengthening of investments. Growthfund, leveraging its institutional mandate, its long-standing experience in major projects and its technical capacity, assumes the role of Ports Planning Authority, actively contributing to the planning and maturation of port projects of strategic importance.
In this context, it acts as Planning Authority for:
including activities that are to be sub-concessioned to investors, within the institutional framework provided by Law 4597/2019.
The role of Growthfund as Planning Authority for each of these ports includes:
In parallel, and following the issuance of a relevant ministerial decision, Growthfund may also assume the role of Planning Authority for port infrastructure outside its portfolio, providing support and know-how to the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy and to port-management bodies.
With a strong commitment to sustainable development and with the aim of strengthening local economies, Growthfund shapes a functional framework for the upgrading of the country’s ports, enhancing outward orientation and accessibility and creating new opportunities for citizens, businesses and investors.
Growthfund’s role as Ports Planning Authority is provided for by environmental legislation (Joint Ministerial Decision ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ/ΕΥΠΕ/οικ. 107017/2006, Government Gazette B’ 1225), in accordance with Article 159 of Law 4635/2019, as in force. The relevant responsibilities are now exercised by Growthfund, following the enhancement of its institutional mandate under Law 5131/2024.
