HCAP: Tender Procedure (RfP) for the provision of expert services for the development of Kalamata Airport

HCAP announces today the kick off of development procedures for 23 regional airports, starting with Kalamata, a project closely linked with the further expansion of the tourism industry. The RfP stipulates the provision of expert services for the in-depth assessment of the existing facilities, the identification and assessment of investment needs, in conjunction with alternative scenarios, and the design of a tender procedure for the award of a long-term concession contract.

The 23 regional airports, – one of which is Kalamata-, are part of the overall air transport system, as well as part of the National Strategy for the utilization of public property. The first step in this direction is taken today following a relevant decision by the Board of Directors and Management of the HCAP for the procedure of the first relevant tender. It is highlighted, that in 2019**, passenger volume at the 23 regional airports amounted to 1.8 million passengers, while flights exceeded 36,000.

“The country’s development is directly linked to the efficient use of public property”, noted the CEO of HCAP, Mr. Gregory D. Dimitriadis, describing the decision as particularly important. The airport of Kalamata is one of the most important airports in the country with an impressive increase in traffic in recent years. Upgrading the facilities will further contribute to the general development of the area and the wider Peloponnese region, and of the travel and hospitality services sector in particular, as it has already been emphatically pointed out by local self-government and business associations’ representatives. It is interesting to note that out of the 341.000 travelers at Kalamata airport in 2019, 317.000 came from abroad”.

The HCAP RfP provides for the contracting services of three consultants (Financial, technical/traffic and legal) who will undertake to design the optimal utilization proposal regarding the concession contract of Kalamata airport. The planning required to be implemented by the consultants includes the diagnostic study and proposals/solutions for the utilization of the airport through the preparation of a business plan as well as the assistance in the tender procedures.
