Growthfund and the Special Secretariat for Long-Term Planning are launching a partnership to strengthen long-term strategic planning with a 2040 horizon, using modern foresight tools for Growthfund and its assets.
Under the partnership, the two sides will work together to shape a long-term vision for Growthfund up to 2040 (“Vision 2040”), considering global trends, technological and social change, and the challenges and opportunities facing the economy, infrastructure and public companies. The aim is to deliver even greater value to citizens through a growth model that is sustainable over the long term.
The Memorandum was signed at Growthfund’s offices by Growthfund CEO Giannis Papachristou and the Special Secretary for Long-Term Planning, Giannis Mastrogeorgiou, in the presence of executives from both organizations.
The partnership will draw on foresight and strategic analysis tools such as mapping key trends and uncertainties, developing alternative future scenarios, and organizing thematic workshops (foresight labs) and knowledge-sharing activities. Targeted training and joint activities will also help Growthfund executives become familiar with modern foresight methodologies.
The Special Secretariat for Long-Term Planning, part of the Presidency of the Government, whose mission is to support the country’s long-term planning through foresight methods, will contribute its specialized expertise and methodologies to the analysis of future trends, risks and opportunities affecting the economy and public companies.
This partnership is expected to serve as a starting point for broader foresight and strategic planning initiatives that could later be extended to individual sectors of Growthfund’s portfolio, supporting the transformation of public companies and opening up new growth opportunities for the Greek economy. The initiative is part of Growthfund’s strategy to enhance the long-term value of its portfolio and support the transformation of public companies through modern approaches to strategic planning.
Growthfund CEO Giannis Papachristou said: “Our partnership with the Special Secretariat for Long-Term Planning strengthens Growthfund’s ability to address, in a systematic way, the megatrends shaping the future of the economy and of public companies. At a time of significant geopolitical and economic challenges, modern foresight methodologies allow us to explore alternative future scenarios and strengthen the strategic planning of our portfolio. This way, we can better prepare our companies for the challenges and opportunities of the next decade”.
The Special Secretary for Long-Term Planning at the Presidency of the Government, Giannis Mastrogeorgiou, said: “Long-term planning is not about making predictions; it is a way of preparing for a future that is changing faster than ever. The Secretariat’s partnership with Growthfund is part of a wider effort to foster in our country a culture of strategic thinking measured in decades, not electoral cycles.
Through foresight methods, we can map the major technological, geoeconomic and social shifts already shaping the global environment and examine how they will affect the future of the country’s public companies and critical infrastructure.
Our goal is to help shape a coherent vision for Growthfund up to 2040, strengthening the ability of public sector organizations to operate with strategic perspective, resilience and adaptability in the face of the major changes ahead, and helping Growthfund become a real driver of growth for Greece.
